Colorado Ag Classic

USCP representative Dusti Fritz attended the Colorado Ag Classic in Loveland, Colo. on December 9-10, 2009. In addition to exhibiting at the trade show, the checkoff hosted a sorghum breakout session. The results of the 3 field trials (Walsh, Brandon, Akron) funded by USCP were presented at this session. The top performing hybrid at the Akron site yielded 118 bushels. These reports are available for viewing at www.csucrops.com. Maturity, standability, and cold tolerance continue to be major constraints for Colo. producers. The USCP is currently investing checkoff dollars to create sorghum varieties that will be very beneficial to Colo. sorghum producers. In conjunction with USDA-ARS and Purdue University, the USCP is funding research for the development of a cold tolerant sorghum that would allow for earlier season planting and produce higher yields under cooler conditions.
