DuPont Field Day in Missouri

July has been full of sorghum field days all across the sorghum belt. On July 14, a field day was held in Columbia, Mo. It was a great university sponsored field day with more than 100 people in attendance, including seed and chemical representatives and producers.

The Missouri field day focused on how to control glyphosate resistant weeds, which is a widespread problem in Missouri, and many farmers are questioning how to control it.

“It was important for us to show our growers some of the technologies that will be coming into the marketplace in the future. This field day enables us to do that and bridge that gap." said Kevin Bradley, a scientist from the University of Missouri. Bradley spoke about chemicals, application rate and growth stages to help farmers improve their sorghum crop. Other topics that were discussed included herbicides, tank mixes and timing of application.

The new “over-the-top” herbicide resistant sorghum lines also a main discussion point of the day. “The Sorghum Checkoff is working with DuPont to develop new over-the-top herbicide technology which was a feature of the Missouri field day.” said Dusti Fritz, Sorghum Checkoff Western States field representative.
