DuPont Field Days
On June 15 and 16, Sorghum Checkoff representative Kristin Heinemann-Utterback attended two sorghum field trials where farmers saw demonstrations of DuPont’s new over-the-top herbicide technology. The first of these field days took place in Thrall, Texas, and was held in conjunction with the Stiles Farm Day. The sorghum research field was a featured stop on the tour where attending farmers were given a brief explanation of the research being done on sorghum and what had been planted at the farm. DuPont representatives answered questions about the new technology that is breaking through in the sorghum industry.
The second field trial was located in Taft, Texas, at the West Portland Gin. Producers and seed salesmen were given the opportunity to see some test plots where some of the research is being done and how this new technology is benefiting to the sorghum industry. After the stop at the test plots, attendees saw the over-the-top herbicide at work at the Texas AgriLife Research & Extension Center.
The demonstration of this technology is a big step for the sorghum industry.
“The Sorghum Checkoff has been the push to finally get this technology in production,” said Kristin Heinemann-Utterback, the director of producer relations for the Texas Grain Sorghum Producers. “Now that the technology has been produced it is time to get it into the hands of the farmers so they are able to profit from this new, exciting technology.”
