Kansas Roundtable Meetings
Dusti Fritz, Sorghum Checkoff western states field representative, hosted producer roundtable meetings in Kansas during the month of November to learn what producers want to see from their checkoff.
The purpose of round table meetings is to gather producers, elevators and end users in the same place to discuss their position, and to allow each group to communicate their needs to the other and to the checkoff.
Dusti said that one major concern among sorghum producers is the need for grass and weed control. She responded by telling the group that the Sorghum Checkoff has funded work to bring ALS and ACCase tolerant hybrids to the sorghum market.
"Sorghum farmers are looking forward to the release of the new post-emergent herbicide technology," Fritz said. "Even though we are a few years away from seeing a commercialized hybrid, it is important for growers to voice their opinions and for us to hear what they would like to see from their checkoff."
