Through a partnership with Texas Tech University, the Sorghum Checkoff will support the Texas Tech Sorghum Research Initiative (TTSRI) to provide a way for anyone interested in sorghum research to search for articles by using keywords.
Cindy Akers, Texas Tech associate professor, says the database will be a valuable resource for many groups in reviewing existing data and establishing new areas of sorghum research. "We have nearly 1,000 articles populating the database and plan to add 500 more by year’s end,” said Akers.“This is a tool that makes existing knowledge more available to the sorghum industry.”
The Texas Tech Agricultural Education and Communication Department was involved in a similar website and database project for the cotton industry. CottonLink.org was launched in 2002 and exists as a credible source for cotton information. Akers and her team will employ user-based testing and evaluation as they secure copyright permissions and continue to add articles to the database. The database is expected to be available in May 2010.
