Sorghum Checkoff at IFADC
Sorghum Checkoff Western States Field Services Director Dusti Fritz and Compliance Director Sue Ann Claudon, along with board members Dale Artho of Wildorado, Texas, and Troy Skarke of Claude, Texas, hosted a booth at the 2011 International Food Aid Development Conference in Kansas City, Mo., June 27-29 to inform the food aid community of sorghum’s value to their industry.
“During our time at the IFADC we hoped to develop new relationships and showcase two new products developed by Kansas State University,” Fritz said. “The new products are a sorghum-soy fortified grits and pasta. Either of the products can be ready in less than five minutes and drew a lot of interest from food aid officials.”
Fritz said many organizations were interested in sorghum and it’s value to the food aid industry. One of the main goals of working with food aid is to develop innovative products to increase purchases of U.S. sorghum by food aid organizations.
“We work very closely with many food aid organizations and we made some new contacts that will help us prove the value sorghum offers in food aid programs,” said Fritz.
