Sorghum Checkoff Joins U.S. Farmers & Ranchers Alliance

June 08, 2011

The Sorghum Checkoff recently joined 39 other national, state and regional agricultural organizations as an affiliate member of the U.S. Farmers and Ranchers Alliance.

USFRA is an alliance of leading farmer- and rancher-led organizations that have joined together in a national effort to strengthen the image of agriculture and enhance public trust in today’s agricultural production practices.

“A number of different groups continue to unfairly and inaccurately attack agriculture, and it’s time for this country to understand the reality of how their food and fiber is produced,” said Bill Kubecka, sorghum farmer and Sorghum Checkoff chairman. “As the public continues to become further removed from the farm, it’s important that all of agriculture unite to help educate consumers about the real story behind what we as farmers do every day. Farmers have nothing to hide, and we are excited to be a part of this effort moving forward.”

The USFRA aims to close the gap in the broad consumer education efforts that exist today while building public trust in today’s agriculture. This is the first time in agriculture’s history that representatives from the majority of farmer- and rancher-led groups have come together to achieve a common goal. The groups have agreed to work together to tell the story of today’s production agriculture with a united voice.

All affiliates, agribusiness partners and individual supporters are invited to participate in the USFRA annual meeting scheduled for Nov. 7-8, 2011, in Kansas City, Mo.
