Kim McCuistion, animal nutrition director will depart from the Sorghum Checkoff in August to begin as Chief of Staff to the Chancellor at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas.
“Kim has been a valuable asset before and during her time at the Checkoff and we expect her to continue to be,” said Sorghum Checkoff Executive Director Florentino Lopez. “She has proven herself as one of the top sorghum nutrition professionals and has served a valuable purpose in multiple animal species and areas of study throughout the world.”
McCuistion has worked closely with the sorghum industry during her career, utilizing sorghum products in grazing, feedlot and dairy cattle diets. Her dissertation work focused on forage sorghum in cattle diets, which was incorporated into decision support tools for beef and forage producers in the Texas Panhandle.
McCuistion began her relationship with the Sorghum Checkoff as a member of the High Value Markets Committee in 2011 and has traveled to several international meetings on behalf of the U.S. Grains Council and Texas Grain Sorghum Producers. In September 2017, she began her full-time position as the organization’s animal nutrition director where she targeted high-value animal feed markets, sharing the benefits of sorghum in animal diets. Her work has been indispensable in developing livestock feeding guides and other resources.
“I’ve been working with sorghum since 2003, there is no way I can just turn and walk away now,” McCuistion said. “I will find ways to remain involved because Team Sorghum has become like a family to me.”
McCuistion has played a fundamental role in advancing the Sorghum Checkoff’s mission, vision and purpose, and increasing sorghum demand. Her work has made advancements in research and end-use development of sorghum. Her passion for animal and livestock nutrition has greatly benefitted sorghum producers and has been a great addition to the Sorghum Checkoff team. The Sorghum Checkoff thanks McCuistion for her years of effort on behalf of Team Sorghum and wishes her well as she takes this new step in her career.
