Sorghum Checkoff Bids Farewell to Smith, Consumer Communications Strategist

Faith Smith, consumer communications strategist for the Sorghum Checkoff departed the Checkoff June 19. Smith leaves her current position to pursue her own contract/freelance communications business.

"Faith has been a tremendous advocate for sorghum and an indispensable member of our communications team," said Sorghum Checkoff External Affairs Director Jennifer Blackburn. "We are excited to still utilize her many talents in a new capacity as a contractor to the organization.”  

Smith began working for the Sorghum Checkoff in April 2014 as the Communications Director, implementing strategic communications planning for all program areas and market segments. In June 2016, when the Checkoff began to focus on sorghum in the consumer food and pet food industries, Smith transitioned to her current position as the Consumer Communications Strategist. With the help of Smith, the consumer brand and slogan, “Sorghum. Nature’s Super Grain.™” was born. Smith was one of the lead staff to develop and launch the consumer website and has been responsible for all communications connected to the consumer brand.

Smith has also been integral in cultivating relationships with health and foodservice professionals through trade shows and recipe creation. Her work and strategic focus has lead to increased consumer awareness of the benefits of sorghum in a healthy diet.

Smith has played a fundamental role in advancing the Sorghum Checkoff’s mission, vision and purpose, and increasing sorghum demand. Her passion and diligence has greatly benefitted not only sorghum producers, but the sorghum industry as a whole. The Sorghum Checkoff would like to express gratitude to Smith for her continual dedication and commitment to Team Sorghum and wishes her the best as she pursues future endeavors.
