Finding the “Sweet Spot”: Combining Precision Agriculture and Conservation to Build a Sustainable and Diverse Farming Landscape

March 11th, 2022 12:30-1:30

Sponsored by United Sorghum Checkoff Program (USCP)

Conservation practices bring immense value to both farms and ecosystems through improved soil health, increased biodiversity and other key climate-positive impacts. When targeted in the right way, these practices can also increase an operation’s overall economic profitability, making it a win-win for all sides. Precision agriculture tools can play a key role in helping farmers take a focused, acre-by-acre approach in their conservation efforts, identifying the most strategic acres for wildlife habitat or practice changes, while keeping the rest of their working lands in production. In finding that “sweet spot,” farmers are building successful operations alongside healthy farming landscapes. This session will be co-hosted by Pheasants Forever & Quail Forever and Cotton Incorporated in a cross-commodity, cross-sectoral collaboration.

Speakers:

– John Duff, United Sorghum Checkoff Program Executive Vice President
– Dr. Mark McConnell, Mississippi State University Assistant Professor of Upland Birds
– Rachel Bush, Pheasants Forever & Quail Forever Interim Ag Program Manager
– Jesse Daystar, Cotton Incorporated Chief Sustainability Officer and Vice President of Sustainability
– Andy Hineman, Hineman Farms
– Nick McMichen, McMichen Farms
