Polyphenols may protect against metabolic diseases. This study was conducted to determine if the consumption of sorghum brans containing 3-deovyanthocyanins could aid in protecting against metabolic diseases. The results were positive and showed beneficial modulations of microbiota populations upon consuming sorghum brans with various polyphenolic compounds. The results suggest the addition of these sorghum brans to diets may help protect against the development of metabolic diseases like obesity and type 2 diabetes.
